MbPT firemen not trained to handle such situations

Five days after 120 people were hospitalised because of a chlorine gas leak inside a Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT) warehouse in Sewri, it is learnt that firemen specially designated inside the Haji Bunder cargo warehouse were the first ones to be knocked out.

An initial probe carried out by the MbPT authorities revealed that despite being stationed inside a warehouse which handles hazardous chemical goods and other cargo, the firemen were not trained in handling gas leaks. Inquiries also revealed that no mock drills regarding rescue strategies were conducted.
